High School Diploma or equivalent
Certified in basic cardiac life support (BCLS)
Currently attending a CoArc approved Respiratory Therapy Program with 6 months of program courses successfully completed (CoArc is the Committee on Accreditation of Respiratory Care)
Primary Duties
Administers and records oxygen and oxygen aerosol therapy according to the prescription of the physician and departmental procedure.
Written documentation should be available and reflects effective performance.
Administers and records small volume nebulizer (SVN) and metered dose inhaler (MDI) breathing treatments according to the prescription of the physician and departmental procedure.
Written documentation should be available and reflects effective performance.
Administers postural drainage and percussion (P&PD) of the chest for pulmonary hygiene according to the prescription of the physician and departmental procedure.
Written documentation should be available and reflects effective performance.
Demonstrates the minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities in age specifc categories being served: infant, pediatrics, adolescent, adult, geriatric.Performs Ekg and Ekg Holter set up.
Operates and monitors continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) devices and bi-level positive airway pressure (BiPAP) devices according to the prescription of the physician and departmental procedure.
Written documentation should be available and reflects effective performance.
Performs arterial blood gas (ABG) sampling.
Demonstrates evidence of safe clinical performance.
Written documentation should be available and reflects effective performance. Monitors and operates mechanical ventilators and ventilation monitoring devices on adults under the direct supervision of a Liicensed Respiratory Therapist (LRT) according to the prescription of the physician and departmental procedure.
Written documentation should be available and reflects effective performance.
Performs ventilation parameters at patient bedside.
Demonstrates evidence of accurate clinical performance.Attends respiratory care emergency calls and performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation as indicated. Recertifies and demonstrates proficiency in BCLS in accordance to hospital policyCleans and assembles respiratory therapy equipment.
Observed evidence of effective performance should be available.Stores and inventories incoming supplies and equipment.Participates in Medical Center and/or departmental quality assessments and continuous quality improvement opportunities, goal setting, collection and evaluation of data, implementation of action plans, or related applications.
All above procedures are performed under the guidance and supervision of Licensed Respiratory Therapist.
Attends and takes an active role in departmental inservices and meetings.
Performs other department related duties as assigned.
