If you are looking to lose weight or quit smoking in the New Year, Lapeer Regional Medical Center (LRMC) can help. There is a new library of consumer health news and health topics on the LRMC website. Consumers can access the library by going to the LRMC home page and clicking on the link for “Health Information.”The home page also includes new health updates as they occur, so consumers can stay on top of current health issues such as the H1N1 flu.
On the library page, consumers will find links to a variety of sections on health and wellness topics. Website visitors will find articles on weight loss and exercise by clicking on the top link for “Diet/Fitness” Also available are wellness topics such as how to quit smoking, manage stress, and more by clicking on the link for "Wellness Info.” In addition, navigational links go to other sections for content such as “For Your Heart,””About Cancer,” and “Women's Health.”
“Our new health information library is a great resource for those looking for specific information about various health and wellness topics,” said Rich Swenson, LRMC director of Communication and Public Relations. “The site is easy to navigate and offers a wealth of information about various health and wellness topics.”
Consumers can get an alphabetical list of topics by clicking on the link for “Health Topics A-Z.” There also is an A-Z list of topics in Spanish which can be accessed by clicking on the link for “En Español A-Z.” Consumer health news is also available, with new topics added each day. This can be accessed by clicking on the link for “Health News.”
For those looking for “hands-on” health and wellness tools, the library offers a selection of consumer quizzes and calculators. Consumers can use these to compute things such as their Body Mass Index, the number of calories burned by various activities, the due date for their baby, and more. These quizzes and calculators can be accessed by clicking on the link for “Quizzes/Calculators.”
On the main page of the library, there are links to the latest consumer health news, as well as the week’s top story. Beneath that, is a graphic that links to different parts of the body, allowing consumers to find topics specific to an area of the body. There are also menus of links to different body systems, such as respiratory, digestive and skeletal; links to popular topics such as allergies, diabetes, GERD and more; and links to procedures such as CT, MRI, and more.
In each article, there are links to related information, so consumers can read through the entire article, then go back and click on related links for additional information.
“LRMC is providing this library as a service to its consumers,” Swenson said. “Your doctor is, of course, the person you should be talking to about any health concerns, but the library is a great tool for researching background information.”
