Acute Dialysis Services

Lapeer Regional Medical Center (LRMC) announced the opening of its new Dialysis Service for inpatients. LRMC began inpatient dialysis on August 4, 2005 and is pleased to offer this much needed service to the Lapeer community. “We are excited to be continuing our growth and expanding the services offered to the community,” says Bart Buxton, President & CEO of LRMC. “Adding inpatient dialysis to our growing list of specialties is in line with our vision to be the comprehensive health care provider of choice for Lapeer County.”

Dialysis is a treatment required by patients who have acute renal failure. Inpatients requiring dialysis will no longer have to be transferred to another facility to receive inpatient dialysis. “At LRMC, we are committed to meeting the health care needs of our community,” says Scott Mango, Chief Nursing Officer. “Previously, our inpatients needing dialysis had to be transferred to another facility before undergoing treatment. By adding inpatient dialysis services, not only are we significantly increasing convenience for our patients, we are also providing enhanced value and higher quality care. At LRMC, we constantly strive to be the best value in health care.”

The first dialysis inpatient, George Slater, 75, of Metamora, underwent his very first dialysis treatment on Thursday, August 4, 2005. “I’m very happy I didn’t need to be transferred to another facility to receive my treatment”, says Slater. “Being close to home while in the hospital is important to me and my family.”

In addition to the new inpatient dialysis services, remodeling will soon begin on a state-of-the-art outpatient dialysis facility within the Medical Center. “It is our objective to respond to community need by providing high quality care and convenience to Lapeer County residents,” says Buxton. “There has been a need for a dialysis center in this community for quite some time. We are pleased to offer the first dialysis center in this area.”
